Regional infrastructural and infocommunication developments, intermodal transportation development

The goal of the projects carried out by TIGRA was to implement a comprehensive, integrated traffic management and passenger information system for Volán Companies – the largest Hungarian public transport companies providing local and inter-local bus transportation.

The solution introduced by TIGRA realized the integration of different systems and the coordination of the subsystems. The outward information interface of the entire system is based on a TransModel database and SIRI and TransXchange services. TransModel is an international standard that is specifically used to support public transport such as route queries, status updates, maps and route budgets.

In the course of the project TIGRA supplied the following system elements along with the necessary devices: Traffic Control, Service Planning, On Board and On Site Passenger Information, Internet, Mobile and SMS Based Passenger Information, Passenger Counting and Zöld Út (Green Way) Insurance.

TIGRA proved its expertise with several different technologies during the project. It installed traditional cable and solar cell devices, built fixed cable communication systems but also integrated the tools of mobile technology into its systems when necessary. TIGRA was able to insert system elements into its own integrated solutions that were adapted for the specific challenges from both domestic hardware and solution suppliers (CDATA, Sygnalterv, HC-Linear, Vultron, Innotrend, Pontosidő, NewLine, EMKE) and international market leaders (T-Systems, KENTKART ICELL).

In the 2007-2014 EU funding period we carried out the projects in the framework of the ROP (Regional Operative Programme).

Social utility

As a result of the implemented infocommunication system the conditions for electronic traffic control were established and a European, user friendly passenger information system came into being that can serve disabled passengers as well.

The new electronic passenger information system installed at the bus stops allows passengers to track buses real time.

The traffic control and passenger information softwares, supported by the on board units provide a more reliable timetable and public transport service for the VOLÁN company.

The project in figures

The value of the completed project is nearly 3 billion HUF, covering 40% of the market.

AS RECOGNITION OF ITS PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE TIGRA WAS AWARDED THE INNOVATION SPECIAL PRIZE OF IVSZ (ASSOTIATION FOR DIGITAL ECONOMY) FOR THE VASI VOLÁN PROJECT.
